In the autumn of 2008 Professor Andy Pearson provided this quote:
“The only way in which the 25% of children with cancer who currently die can be cured is by the development of new drugs. The Institute of Cancer Research is uniquely placed to develop these drugs. Christopher’s Smile will help enormously in achieving our goals. All monies raised will be used to fund a Higher Scientific Officer (HSO) working with Dr Lou Chesler and Dr Stergios Zacharoulis. This scientist would investigate the effects of new anti-cancer, molecularly targeted, drugs on the blood supply in medulloblastoma. The strategy is a belt and braces approach to cure medulloblastoma by killing the cells with targeted treatment and reducing the blood supply to the cells through anti-angiogenic therapy.”
